We love the show Stranger Things around here. Our son, who’s ten, really got into it the most now that we told him he’s old enough to watch it. He binged like three seasons in a couple of weeks. We always joke about how fun it would be to find all the filming locations next time we are in Atlanta, but we have never been there with time to do so.
Well, over his Fall break, we found ourselves in Atlanta with lots of extra time. It seemed like the perfect time to seek out the spots. We didn’t mind if we just had to look from the outside; we just wanted to find some landmarks. Hawkins is a fictional town, so we got out and explored surrounding communities outside of Atlanta and throughout the city itself. Jump below to see all that we did find. Make sure to scroll down, as we did find something fascinating. This post is very photo heavy but quite enjoyable. - Erin
So, we decided to go by Hawkins Middle and High School. I had read that it’s all boarded up and only used for filming these days. It closed as an actual school in 2015 and has been a set ever since. Well, imagine our surprise when we get there, and there are hundreds of people walking around, the school doors are wide open, and people are moving in and out of the school. We drove by during a school reunion from the 60s to the 80s. Generations of people that attended the school as kids were there with their families, walking the halls, trying to find their old classrooms. I don’t think half of them even knew what a Stranger Thing was. We just walked right in like we belonged there. Below are what we found…
If you are curious about where any of the locations are and want to take your own Stranger Things location tour, let me know. I’m happy to guide you to any of these spots. We still have a few more locations to find, but this was an excellent start for us.
Something my son recommended that was a lot of fun was that we listened to the Stranger Things soundtrack while we drove from place to place. It got us in the mood for the hunt.
I’d love if you shared this newsletter with any of your Stranger Things-loving friends or family. It helps to keep the newsletter going! Until next time…
