Hi, I’m Erin Austen Abbott, and welcome to the Field Trip Newsletter. It’s free to access and read once a month, but if you want to support my work, please consider a paid newsletter subscription: just $5/month, or save money with the $50/annual sub. Thank you so much for being here! I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have you in this community. Enjoy!
I have been sucked into work this last year, and making time to write here and for myself has been put aside. I’ve always felt that things come together when systems are in place, and a plan is called into action, which I haven’t been doing for myself in the last few years. Well, with a new year, I have a new plan.
Since my son was born, I have had so much that I want to share with my online community, ideas that have sparked, things I’ve found that I want to share and implement in some fashion, and so on… the list is long and vast and honestly, I’d never be able to share all of it, do all it. So, I’m not going to. I’m going to streamline from this moment on, organizing what I share into categories, and that way, you, the readers, will know what’s coming, what you want to open from me in your inbox, and what you can skip over.
Each week of each month will have a topic where you can plan to look for said topic.
Week one of each month will be a mix of lesson plans to do from home and beyond with your children and grandchildren or add to your classroom. This will involve a mix of topics, from art to design, architecture, food, music, and culture.
Week two of each month will be travel tips and itineraries from around the world that I’ll be putting together for you.
Week three of each month will be homeschool tips and ideas—resources I’ve found, books we love, etc. Even if you aren’t homeschooling, I’ll share tangible ways to enrich your children’s learning experiences from school to home and beyond.
Week four will be a calendar of kid-friendly events around the world, a round-up of things I’ve found and love. This could include new-to-me artists, food items I’m using in the kitchen and sharing with my family, movies we’ve watched, and music we are listening to. All the things that are made more fun when you share them with your family.
Here’s where it gets tricky… only one week a month will go out to free readers. I will stagger it, changing each month to what that week will be. If you love week three the previous month but get week four the following month, it might be time to switch to the $ 5-a-month subscription. I want everyone to get a taste of all the weeks, but I welcome you supporting the time, energy, and writing I try to put into each newsletter.
I’ll start everything next week, the second week of January.
I’ll leave you with this, something I shared on my Instagram this morning:
Happy New Year! Here’s to wishing you the year you see for yourself, whatever that looks like.
We all have different goals, versions of ourselves that we want to see in the world, ideas, and dreams that matter to us. I hope we can all find kindness and embrace one another’s differences; that’s what I’m hoping this kid is learning, all while cheering one another on.
Thank you for being a part of this community, whatever time you can give to reading, sharing these posts, and engaging with this community. I’m so thankful you are here, and I hope to see more of you in the New Year! Happy 2024! - Erin
