Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday and settled into 2023 nicely. I wrote 2022 on a check yesterday, so I hope to have it down by August.
I’ve spent the last few weeks working diligently on my new book, Small Town Living. It will tell the story of 24 different people that have made the transition from the big city to a small town and are now finding their way through this way of living, all while sharing with the readers what they have learned along the way, what they wished they had known before moving to the slower pace of a small town and all joys that come with living this way as well. It goes deep into what it means to live in a small town while highlighting many places along the way. My son and I will spend June traveling from our home in Mississippi, up the East coast to Maine, and over to Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. We will fly to Utah and Colorado in July, with several spring trips scattered about. All in all, 18 states will be represented in the book. I’ll feature shopkeepers, farmers, artists, authors, museum curators, bloggers, designers, chefs, hoteliers, and more. EEEK! I can’t wait for you to see this book. At the least, join me on my travels to visit all these incredible people,
With all of that travel comes a lot of planning! Over the next few months, I will share several posts highlighting how I plan a trip. I’ve spent so much time sharing after the fact but rarely on the planning side of things. And I will say, almost all, if not every, trip we take is very planned out because I don’t personally like getting to a place and not having a general idea of what to see and do, where to stay or miss out on restaurants because we don’t have a reservation, etc.
I will share apps I use, maps I love, planning tricks I’ve learned, and so on. Who’s excited to dive in deep on this one?
Until then, this photo sums up the feeling you’ll get from this laid-back, slow-paced book. I can’t wait to start exploring! - Erin
